Darryl Armstrong

OWNER/Lead Graphic Designer

After graduating from Northern Michigan University with a BFA in graphic design, Darryl started his career path briefly typesetting Yellow Page ads before moving to a retail store chain where he began his graphic design journey. He earned his MBA from Grand Valley State University and continued his career path through employment as a customer service representative with a large pre-press shop and as the in-house graphic designer and graphics department director for a west Michigan company.

In 1998, Darryl began his freelance design career, and in 2000 founded Armstrongraphics, Inc. Over the years, he has built relationships with many west Michigan companies and organizations. His business grew so much that in 2015 he was able to add other designers to keep up with the workload. Today, doing business as Innovative Marketing Design, Darryl and his team (Erin and Tyler) support many companies, organizations and retail shops with their marketing needs. Their clientele include many small businesses both locally and nationally.

Darryl married his college sweetheart, Karen, in 1986. They have a wonderful family of three children and their spouses, and six grandchildren. They enjoy playing board games, yard games, volleyball and camping. But most of all, they enjoy spending time with their family.

Erin Trach

Graphic Designer

Erin began her academic journey at Muskegon Community College before transferring to Ferris State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design and Web Media. Her design career started with a leading signage company specializing in projects for collegiate and professional stadiums. During her tenure, Erin not only honed her design expertise but also played a pivotal role in building and leading the design team while taking on various responsibilities that expanded her skill set.

In 2015, Erin joined Darryl at IMD, transitioning her focus to print and digital media. This career shift ignited her passion for collaborating with a talented team and working with exceptional customers. She has embraced this new direction wholeheartedly, continuously thriving in a creative and dynamic environment.

Erin married to her husband, Tom, in 2010 Together they have two children. Recently, they embarked on an exciting chapter by moving to a new town, building their dream home, and welcoming a new furry friend into the family. Erin treasures her family time, from weekly Thursday dinners at her parents’ home to supporting her children’s activities as their dedicated chauffeur to marching band practices and sports events.

Tyler Sowles

Graphic Designer

Tyler has been drawing all his life. After graduating from Kendall College of Art and Design, Tyler began freelancing as an illustrator. Commissioned artwork became more than a hobby, instead becoming a career. Forming a niche around sci-fi and fantasy, he started drawing comics for small press and indie publishers. In 2018 Tyler started working for Darryl as part of the IMD team, applying his illustration skills to graphic design. Tyler has a family with his wife, Jen, and enjoys comics, video games, vintage toys and other nerdy stuff in his free time.
